Faversham Creek Housing
THE BRIEF WAS TO DESIGN HOUSING ON THE BANKS OF THE CREEK, WITHIN A FLOOD ZONE, WHILE CONSIDERING THE WIDER URBAN IMPLICATIONS.
This project aimed to regenerate Faversham Creek. After considering the wider urban area, we were tasked with designing a mixed-use development for one of the sites along the creek. Housing was the main focus, but as the site was in a high flood risk area, the bottom floor of the buildings could not be residential.
I built a model of the site to show the relationship between my buildings, the creek-side path, and the creek itself. The exact details of the buildings weren't needed, so I made the basic building shapes very quickly using origami. This lead to the triangular shapes on the main part of the building, which were not part of the design.
When photographing the model, I arranged the lighting so that it mimicked the sun at it's highest point. I wanted to see the positioning of the shadows cast by my proposal.
